Orthotics & Gaitscan
Problems with feet often present themselves as referred symptoms in your back, knees, and hips.
Issues with your feet or ankles?
A small abnormality in foot function can have a large impact on joints higher up in the body. The average person takes 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day. That adds up to about 115,000 miles in a lifetime or more than four times around the world. That is a lot of walking with ill-fitting shoes or painful feet!
- Do you get pain in your feet? Have fallen arches or flat feet?
- Do you get back pain or spine pain?
- Do you suffer from knee pain?
- Do you suffer from hip pain?
- Do you have bunions, heel pain, shin splints, calluses or hammer toes?
- Are you busy and spend a lot of the day on your feet?
- Do you enjoy playing sport and want to perform to your best ability?
If the answer is yes to any of the above, a gaitscan is worth considering. We use TOG Gaitscan a state-of-the-art computerised software system and pressure plate for assessing foot mechanics. It helps us determine whether you will benefit from orthotic therapy. It also enables the precise imprint of your feet to be used to manufacture custom made orthotics. These insoles are not only extremely comfortable, they reduce stress and strain on your body by realigning and stabilising the bones in your feet.
Orthotics for Children
Orthotics for children can be very helpful in supporting the growing body. We generally recommend looking at children from the age 6-7 years old, when the arch is fully formed.
Consider orthotics if your child is suffering from the following conditions:
- Growing pains (general pains especially after exercise)
- Heel pain
- Knee pain (e.g. Osgood Schlatters – pain around the front of the knee)
- Gait issues – feet rolling in/out
- Balance issues
- Family history of foot problems.
Orthotics can also be helpful for children who are involved in lots of sports, due to the high levels of strain on the growing body. They can align their lower limb bone structure into proper position, reduce the chance of injury and enhance youngsters’ balance, posture and stability.
As with adults, children will be given a full biomechanical examination and gait analysis. We have a range of orthotics to suit children and will advise appropriately which orthotic would suit best. We will also advise on footwear and exercises where appropriate.
Why we recommend GAIT™ ANALYSIS TOG orthotics
The traditional method for making orthotics involves plaster of paris or foam impressions of the foot when stationary. TOG GaitScan™System captures a moving image of the foot and is therefore far more accurate.
You wouldn’t wear someone else’s glasses, so why would you put something under your feet that has not been designed specifically for you! Like glasses, TOGS Insoles are custom made to a specific prescription, thereby offering the best possible support and relief from symptoms. They help reduce pain throughout the feet, legs, knees, hips and back and can dramatically help to improve and maintain a healthy posture.
Unlike most insoles made from polypropylene, which have a short life span and flattens under constant stress, TOGS orthotics are made from a unique memory plastic which is guaranteed for life against breakage or cracking, and will never flatten. The average lifespan of the TOG orthotic is 15 years.
